About me
Hello, my name is Katie and I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor.
I seek to offer a safe, calm, non-judgemental space for you to be heard and to explore the difficulties that you are facing.
The events and circumstances of our lives can often be very challenging and overwhelming and it can feel a big step to reach out for help.
My aim is to support you to work through the issues that you are facing by finding better ways of coping, by gaining a deeper awareness of your feelings and emotions, greater understanding
of the events and circumstances that are impacting your life, and by helping you to be able to move forwards with confidence and hope.
I am based in Horsham and work with adults and young people (12 yrs+).

My background
I have worked for many years in the education and charity sector working with adults, children and young people. I am qualified to work in therapy with adults and young people and am committed to continuing my knowledge and understanding through ongoing professional development.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Association of Christians in Counselling (ACC). I have a degree in counselling, a degree in community education and a post graduate certificate in education – BA(Hons), BA(Hons), PGCE.
As well as working in private practice I also work as a counsellor in a local secondary school.

The way I work
I am a neuro-informed therapist and am completing a Certificate in Autism and Mental Health through National Centre of Autism and Mental Health (NCAMH).
I work in a short-term or open-ended way, which means that the number of sessions you have with me can be limited or we can work towards ending.
I work with a range of issues including: anxiety, depression, stress, loss of direction, low confidence and self-esteem, shame, loss, relationship problems, trauma, abuse, neurodivergence, sexuality, gender and spirituality.
As an integrative Counsellor, I use a variety of different ways of working to meet individual needs including:
Solution-focused
Supporting individuals working towards their own solutions to specific problems.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Helping people manage problems by changing how they think and behave.
Psychodynamic
Exploring how buried thoughts, feelings and experiences affect every day life.
Internal Family Systems
Understanding how our internal voices can help and hinder our wellbeing.
Person-centred
Working collaboratively with individuals enabling them to make the best decisions for themselves.

"When I first started, I was a mess of emotions. Katie has really helped me to understand myself better and to manage my mind and emotions more effectively. I feel I am getting better at handling challenges because of our sessions." - Adult client
"I feel like Katie really makes the effort to work in a way which suits my needs. It's like a customised session just for me each time. She has really helped me to improve my mindset and work on expanding my comfort zone. She makes me feel heard and is lovely to be with and easy to talk to."
- Young person
"From the start it was clear Katie had my daughter's needs and anxieties at the heart of what she did. She's helped us get our heads around living with autism and anxiety and what this means for my daughter and she quite rightly pointed out that this is very much an individual thing. She is calm, friendly and encourages honesty which is so helpful to the counselling process. - Parent of young person

Starting counselling
I offer a complimentary 30 minute telephone call to introduce myself and find out more about what is bringing you to counselling.
The therapeutic relationship is key in counselling and this allows you to decide if you feel that I am someone you would be comfortable to work with without any pressure or commitment.
Following this we can arrange to meet face-to-face or via Zoom. Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £60. A limited number of concessionary spaces are available, please ask.
We can plan to work together for just a few sessions or commit to a longer time frame which would include regular reviews to evaluate the work we are doing together.
Contact me
I am part of The Crescent Practice (www.thecrescentpractice.co.uk) and offer in person and virtual sessions via Zoom at The Mill House Counselling Rooms. I also offer sessions in my Garden Office at my home. Both of these are located in central Horsham.
I look forward to hearing from you.
